Who Doesn’t Want Something for Nothing?

Seeking financial opportunities have been a lifelong pursuit of mine.  Being left holding the baby and in debt by his truely, I decided that a role model for my daughter I must be.  Creating, upcycling, recycling, inventing the list is endless.  I have come along way since then, having a husband and daughter number two, but I still can’t shake the old ways.

Being put on furlough with my full-time job, money is tight keeping up with bills.  Don’t know about you, but a small bonus to being stuck in is I’m spending less.  So being stuck in the house and fed up of painting walls, gardening and clearing out cupboards, I have been at my laptop researching ways to make money.

Every Penny counts!

Last year my curiosity into money making apps started.  Using Facebook and playing games on my phone (I love Seekers Notes, Blockudoku and Homescapes), those annoying adverts that pop up continuously got me thinking are they what they are cracked up to be or a scam.  I thought easy, using my brains portable hard drive the smart phone, I will find out.

Starting with receipt apps that I discovered first a while ago. I decided to only comment on the four apps I feel are worth bothering with, not wasting your valuable reading time.

Snapping receipts which earn points, can be swapped for credit or vouchers for various online concerns. Two of the four are minimal effort.  The other two are more time consuming and it is whether you decide that you have that time.

Comment and share your money making ideas, us Lockdowner’s would love to give them a go.

Shoppix, Huyu, Receipt Hog & Swagbucks

Shoppix no matter the value of the receipt you receive 25 points plus an extra 5 points if you submit it the same day you make the purchase. Mini surveys and scratch cards are also available to collect bonus points.

Build up enough points and they can be exchanged for PayPal, Amazon, Love2shop or iTunes vouchers.

Snapping receipts take seconds and then they are processed.

Mini surveys are quick and take a minute or two at the most to boost your point score.

Registered with this app approximately 10 months, earned 3 x £20.  I swapped for Amazon vouchers which was an effortless transaction.  Shoppix advantage over Huyu is that it accepts many receipts, even my local pet store which is not a chain.  As an average spender I have worked out approximate earnings £6.00 per month.  This app had the best return for me, with minimal effort and ease of use.  If you are a shopaholic you will earn a lot more than me!

HuYu  same principle snapping receipts. Submit your in-store receipts to earn points which you can swap for rewards.  You can also boost your earnings by completing short surveys within the app.

You earn 5 points per receipt and can cash out when you hit 500 points.

You are only able to use receipts from Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl and Co-op.  Includes express stores and petrol receipts.  So for example if you went shopping to Tesco, had a coffee in their cafe and then filled tank up on way out that’s 3 x receipts.

Been registered with this app for approximately 8 months in which time I have claimed £10 in reward vouchers for Argos.  In comparison to Shoppix 80p per month earned since registration, but only takes grocery store receipts so much slower to build up unlike Shoppix.

However, it is something for nothing using minimal time snapping your receipt when you’ve been food shopping and answering a few questions when randomly asked.

Receipt Hog again you earn points when you take photos of your receipts.  Answer surveys and enter sweepstakes.

The app also offers a ‘Hog Slots’ game (like a slot machine) to earn a few extra coins, £66 cash or even the value of your last shop back!  Rewards build until you reach threshold to exchange your coins. Offered are Amazon vouchers, Paypal or Mastercard Prepaid card.

For a £5 reward voucher 1500 coins are needed.

Registered with this app for about a year, it took 10 months to earn 758 coins, I received ‘Hog Slots’ bonuses winning 5 coins, approximately 3 times.  My shopping over Christmas period and snapping receipts boosted the coins earned and managed by February to get just over 1560 coins.

Personally I feel it’s not worth the effort.  Building coins is very slow and tedious compared to Shoppix and Huyu as took a year. When I finally  swapped for £5 Paypal credit it took 2 weeks to show in my Paypal account.

Tried out Swagbucks for 6 months.  I found this app far too time consuming for me. To make it work I think you’d have to look at it like a part time job!

The surveys make you think you are going to earn well, but when clicking to enter a survey  of 100SB I didn’t meet criteria and was offered another survey, great you think, so I proceed to complete it and at the end of the survey earn 1SB, this was not displayed at the beginning when offered.  I answered a survey one evening thinking I was going to earn 100SB for 25 minutes of my time, nope, the survey took 20 minutes and rewarded 1SB.

The site’s expansive marketplace maybe a better offering for cashback, I didn’t try this as wanted to stick to non-cost apps.

In 6 months I have earned 38SB so far attempting to use app at least half an hour an evening.

This one is a no goer for me!
